Who's in charge?City Lights is being organized by a group of friends from different churches and Christian organisations around Auckland. Contact us at info@citylights.co.nz. The core team that is organising it includes representatives from YWAM, St. Vincent De Paul, St Paul's Anglican church, IOSIS (formerly Baptist Action), Salvation Army, and Edge City Church. What kinds of projects are already set up?Most projects are linked to reputable organisations such as IOSIS (formerly Baptist Action), South Auckland Caregivers Association, St. Vincent de Paul and City Council. We will pick up rubbish, hang out with foster kids, do some gardening, clean up graffiti, paint some murals, pray in 24-7 prayer rooms, serve a women's refuge, provide a meal for those in need, do practical DIY, serve the elderly, scrub floors, paint walls, wash windows and a whole lot more! How can I submit a project for City Lights?Simple - just email us and we'll help you with anything we can. If you need man power we can help recruit volunteers for you. City Lights is a great excuse to do that simple act of kindness that you've had in your heart to do. How often do you run City Lights Gatherings? At the moment, we are running gatherings twice a year, once in Summer, and once in Winter. Please see our "Get Involved" page for more details. So far yes, we are only running City Lights in Auckland (South Auckland to be specific) but we hope to expand throughout all of Auckland and NZ and we won't stop until we see an explosion of initiatives all over our city and nation. We have friends that are running a similar venture in Hamilton called Streetworks. We highly recommend them. Check out www.streetworks.org.nz and get involved! I can't wait until the next Gathering, how can I be involved? If you would like to be involved with City Lights throughout the year, you can join our mailing list here. If you have an idea that you'd like to start, we'd love to help you get going! Also if you have no idea but just want to get volunteering, please Contact us here See the Get Involved page for more info. Much of the inspiration for City Lights has come from a similar venture in England called Soul in the City. Check it out and get inspired! |
